And the Word became flesh and dwelt among us, and we have seen his glory, glory as of the only Son from the Father, full of grace and truth. John 1:14
As a child, I always sang “Santa Claus is Coming to Town,” but stumbled at the lyric “He knows if you’ve been bad or good, so be good for goodness sake!” I knew that I could never hit this impossible goal, so I hoped Santa wouldn’t notice, and would give me presents anyway.
Out of his great love, God did notice my darkened heart and sent his precious Son to earth on a rescue mission for me and all of mankind. In the opening verse of the book of John, he explains that the “Word” is God; in verse 14, John tells us that the Word is God’s Son Jesus Christ who came to earth as a human baby clothed within the glory of God. And yes, we can’t understand this, but we can know God by knowing his Son through saturating ourselves in His Word, the Holy Bible.
During this Christmas season, I encourage you to seek God’s truth about good and bad by reading the Book of John, a powerful and riveting eye-witness account of Jesus’s life and teachings. You will see how your life can be transformed from darkness into light, by God’s Son who humbled himself, even to death on a cross, so that your sins could be forgiven, and you could be recognized as good and inherit eternal life. It is the story of the gift he gave to you and to me, a present of abundant grace and love that we don’t deserve.
