Greater love has no one than this, than to lay down one’s life for his friends. John 15:13
Love has existed from the beginning of time, and it was present in creation. On a night long, long ago, a magnificent star appeared over Bethlehem, and the cry of a baby broke the silence of that night. The night when love was born, and the world would be forever changed by that love. A love that brought sight to the blind and enabled those who had never walked to take their first steps. A love that brought those who had fallen asleep in death, back to life. A love that can take a broken and shattered life and make it whole again. A relentless love that refuses to give up on us. A love that would result in the greatest sacrifice the world has ever known. A love that would be beaten and battered. A love that would suffer and be nailed to an old rugged cross. A love that died and was buried and many thought that was the end. But on the third day love arose in ultimate victory and triumph.
So let us rejoice with everything that is within us. Let us close our eyes and remember the night, “When Love Was Born.”
Prayer: Father may we never forget the night “When Love Was Born” and was wrapped in swaddling clothes and laid in a manger. A love that has borne our sorrows and our grief and took on the incredible weight of our transgressions. A love that relentlessly pursued us when we were far away and a love that will not let us go. So once again let us celebrate with hearts full and overflowing with gratitude, and let us share this love with a world that so desperately needs it. Let us lift our voices in thanks and praise for a night “When Love Was Born.” Amen
