Day 21: Love

For it is by grace you have been saved, through faith—and this is not from yourselves, it is the gift of God— not by works, so that no one can boast. Ephesians 2:8-9

Growing up as a pastor’s kid, Christmas Eve was a busy night for our family. We would serve at our church’s multiple Christmas Eve services and then get a late dinner at the local Chinese restaurant because nothing else was open. When we got home (usually around midnight), my older sister and I were allowed to open one gift. Even though we knew exactly what it would be (Christmas pajamas), we were still excited to open a present from underneath the Christmas tree.

Whether you find the most joy in giving or receiving, gifts are a special way to show others that you care for them. God showed the immense depth of his love for us by sending the ultimate gift, Jesus Christ, to this earth to dwell among us. Because of the gift of Christ, we are saved through faith. It is impossible to save ourselves. All we can do is accept the gift that is being lovingly and graciously offered to us by our Lord and Savior. There are no strings attached to this amazing gift.

Have you accepted the gift of Jesus Christ? If you have not, now is the perfect time. Wherever and whenever you are reading this, God is waiting and ready for you.

God, we thank you for the gift of Jesus Christ. Thank you for the reminder this Christmas season of the most important gift ever given. Thank you for our salvation.
